Welcome to Woodward

The Woodward Children’s Center continues to strive to be the leader in providing excellence in special education service and support for students and their families challenged by the presence of disabling social, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Our vision is to be the special education and treatment program of choice for families and their sponsoring school districts.

We pledge to teach each of our students the social and emotional skills necessary to face life’s challenges, along with providing them cutting edge education to meet the demands of the future.

What They're Saying

Woodward has been helping my child to achieve his behavioral and academic goals.  I am proud and happy that the staff has worked with him and that he will graduate this year.  I am also pleased that I am always made privy to what is happening at school through contact by school personnel.

March 27th

Every Friday Woodward Children’s Center has a guest chef come in to teach the students different culinary skills. Chef Ivan works at Rachel’s Waterside Grill located in Freeport, New York.  He has taught the student’s how to make delicious dishes from chicken noodle soup, vegetarian lasagna, to a twice-baked potato. Three of our students Carmen, Jaylynn, and Silhouette interviewed chef Ivan. Here is what he had to say!

Students: Where did you go to school and what experience have you had before owning your own restaurant?

Chef Ivan: In high school I went to Boce’s for two years and studied in their culinary program. I then attended the Culinary institute of America for two years.  After graduating from college I worked at various catering halls and restaurants.

Students: Why did you name your restaurant Rachel’s?

Chef Ivan: I named it after my niece. I never thought anyone would l like the name “Ivan’s.”

Students: What is your favorite food?

Chef Ivan: I do not have a favorite food; it’s too hard to answer. I love all different foods.

Students: How do you like working with our students?

Chef Ivan: This is the first class I have taught and so far it’s been a good experience!

Students: What is the first meal you remember making?

Chef Ivan: Spaghetti and cheese sauce.

Students: Why did you choose to become a chef?

Chef Ivan: I decided to become a chef because I used to fool around in the kitchen at home. My father suggested to go to Boce’s for cooking.
